“Our Aim and Our Appointment” - Dr. Doug Melton

  2 Corinthians 5:6-10

1. You can’t please God apart from faith in Christ. That is the gospel.

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.“

  Romans 12:1

“Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”

  Hebrews 13:20-21

“For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God‘s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

  Romans 8:7-8

2. What is your ambition during your brief stay on earth?

“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.“

  Galatians 1:10

“Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.”

  Ephesians 5:8-11

3. Make pleasing the Lord your aim because you have an appointment you must keep.

“For the Son of Man is going to come with His angels in the glory of His father, and then He will repay each person according to what he has done.“

  Matthew 16:27

“Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done.“

  Revelation 22:12
