“Family Focus” - Dr. Doug Melton
Psalm 115
1. The absolute necessity of God-centered living.
• It’s the only anchor to hold to when everything else goes wrong.
• It frees us of the burden that life and blessing are up to us.
“The principle runs through all life from top to bottom. Give up yourself, and you will find your real self. Lose your life, and you will save it. Submit to death, death of your ambitions and favorite wishes every day and the death of your whole body in the end: submit with every fiber of your being, and you will find eternal life. Keep back nothing. Nothing that you have not given away will be really yours. Nothing in you that is not died will ever be raised from the dead. Look for yourself, and you will find in the long run only hatred, loneliness, despair, rage, ruin, and decay. But look for Christ and you will find Him, and with everything else thrown in.“
C. S. Lewis
• It’s the key to your children learning to pursue God’s love and faithfulness.
• Because your kids will be confronted with the question “Where is their God?”
• God-centered living begins with God-centered praying.
2. Look for happiness, joy, peace, love, and fulfillment only in the one true God.
3. Trust in the Lord.
4. Rewards and responsibilities
• Increase is based on grace.
• Family focus begins with the parents.
• True increase will never come at the expense of your marriage or your children.
• Children don’t measure increase in terms of dollars.
