“Grace and Giving” - Dr. Doug Melton

  2 Corinthians 8:1-15

  The reason we give is because of the grace shown through Jesus Christ.

1. Giving is by grace.

  Grace enables your giving.

  Grace even allows you to give.

  Grace motivates our giving.

2. Giving is an act of grace AND a spiritual discipline.

  “Now concerning the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you also are to do. On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.”

  1 Corinthians 16:1-2

3. Giving demonstrates genuine love.

4. The desire to give needs to be matched by the doing of giving.

5. Remember your poverty.

  “It is good for the rich man to acknowledge his poverty. If he thinks himself full, this is mere puffing, not abundance. Let him recognize that his hands are empty so that God can fill them.“
