"How Much Have You Been Forgiven?" - Nathan Coats

Luke 7:36-50

“Immediately I received the strength to believe it, and the full beams

of the Sun of Righteousness shone upon me. I saw the sufficiency of the

atonement He had made, my pardon sealed in His blood, and all the

fullness and completeness of His justification… I could only look up to

heaven in silent fear, overwhelmed with love and wonder.”

- William Cowper

Main Point: Your love for God and others is determined by your

understanding of how much God has forgiven you.

(1) We need forgiveness for a debt that we cannot pay.

“But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.” Isaiah 59:2

(2) The God of forgiveness is a Savior who sees.

“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.” Colossians 2:13-15

“To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be

known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and

truly loved is a lot like being loved by God.”

 - Tim Keller

(3) The fruit of forgiveness is love for God and love for others.

“A man’s spiritual health is directly proportional to his love for God.”

- C.S. Lewis

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32

1. I will not dwell on the sin.

2. I will not repeatedly bring up the sin and use it against you.

3. I will not gossip to others about the sin.

4. I will not let this sin stand between us or hinder our relationship.
