“Confronted with Christ”
Luke 20:41-44
1. What line of thinking is Jesus trying to help them see?
If David calls him ‘my Lord,’ then David’s son must be greater than David.
If David calls him ‘my Lord,’ then his son must be a higher authority.
If Yahweh says, ‘Sit at my right hand,’ then the Messiah must share in God’s rule.
“Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says,
“ The Lord said to my Lord,
‘ Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.’ “
Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.“
Acts 2:33–36.
• Jesus is not ready for the conversation to end.
• The ultimate question was then and always will be “WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE CHRIST?”
• Jesus will never fit within your expectations.
• Answers to life’s most important questions are found in God’s Word.
• Jesus’ easy questions encourage us to do the hard work of examining our hearts.
