"Faithfulness to the Great Commission" - Greg Mann
Matthew 4:18-23
• By God’s grace, our commitment to following Jesus will be the perpetuating determinant of future
faithfulness to the Great Commission.
18 While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” 20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him. 21 And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. 22 Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
• There is an obvious assumption that you must not overlook.
• The obvious assumption is that you must be passionate
about what God is passionate about.
• if you can’t remember what the gospel has done for
you, then you’ll have very little motivation to see what the gospel can do for others!
2. There is a humbling implication that you must admit.
• You ARE NOT who you need to be, and you CANNOT DO what needs
to be done in order to fish for men...
• Before you can ever “go and make,” you must first “come
and be made.”
• It was a display of GREAT grace, that Jesus chose YOU as the means to catch men for His glory...
• A following spirit invariably and inevitably leads to a fishing spirit.
