“Right(fool), Wrong(fool)” - Dr. Doug Melton

2 Corinthians 11:16-33

1. If you truly follow Christ, there will be those who think you are a fool.

  “For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

  “For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;”

  1 Corinthians 1:21-27

  “We are fools for Christ’s sake, …”

  1 Corinthians 4:10a

2. If you are a fool for anyone or anything else other than Christ, it will disappoint you and destroy you.

3. Right fool and wrong fool

Wrong fool —

 • to believe that where you were born, or to whom you were born, gives you entrance into heaven;

 • to claim to be a servant of Christ, with no service nor sacrifice;

 • to believe that God doesn’t know your heart.

Right fool —

 • to wholeheartedly pursue Christ fully understanding that to do so will bring suffering;

 • to carry with you a deep concern for the church;

 • to boast of that which shows my personal weakness rather than that which shows my personal strength.
